Employment Information & Criteria

Employment Information & Criteria
for Jobs with
“GERIANNE B HULL (INDIE PUBLISHER)”

Working Conditions:

Because the employer has Asthma, at no time are staff or applicants permitted to smoke or wear scented products of any kind. This includes: interview times, onboarding times, work times, or any time you are with the employer.

My Philosophy:

Know that I DO NOT EVER use terms such as “home care”,  “caregiver” or “care.” Nor do I ever describe myself as someone needing “care.”

I personally find such words offensive and patronizing. I feel these terms falsely raise the status of the person providing assistance, while downgrading the status of the person needing assistance. Personally, I prefer using descriptives akin to “Independent Living Helper” or “Independent Living Attendant” and I expect everyone who works for me to follow suit.

Also in following this line of thinking in attitude, and because the assistance I require is non-medical, I basically never hire cca’s, psw’s, or nurses. I simply find all too often persons in such “professions” believe that they know more about what I need than I do, and trust me, that is simply never the case, although basic First Aid and CPR are considered assets in every environment.

Unfortunately there will always be inappropriate altitudes about disabilities. Therefore as a strong first voice disability advocate, I feel I have a responsibility to enlighten and educate.

My Onboarding Process:

All new staff will be required to participate in an average of 3 – 5 short “shadow shifts,” depending on how quickly the new employee learns, and how quickly a comfort level is achieved between the employee and the employer. Because of funding restrictions, these shadow shifts are non-paid.these sha
