Creating Chaos Wherever I Go! (Sometimes)
|
Sometimes, I honestly feel like God wants me to create a little chaos, in a good kind of way. Often on Sunday mornings, if the front pews are mostly empty, our minister invites everyone to move forward. He usually does so around the time of our “exchange of peace (also called the passing of the peace)” because (at least in our church) many get up to greet one another. (We’re a friendly bunch.) There’s friendly smiles, hand shakes, fist bumps, and even a few hugs for those who feel comfortable giving & receiving them. (If someone isn’t comfortable with such things, no worries. Your preferences will be respected.) Now usually, no one ever moves up. I don’t know why. I often wonder how discouraging it must be for our good Rev. week after week, when no one moves up, as if everyone’s butts were crazy-glued to the pews that they’re seated on. About a week or two back I got tempted to move up, only by the time I thought of it, I felt it was too late. Most people had returned to their seats and I didn’t want to make a scene - but I felt disappointed in myself. Why didn’t I have quite enough nerve to do it? I tried to console myself: “Next time! Or, one of these times, I will!” Well, yesterday, (June 14) I suddenly gave myself a boot in the a**!!!
As I started my chair, my friend asked with a note of surprise: ‘Are you moving up front Gerianne???’ Our friend beside her also asked. I replied with a: “Come on you guys!” as I began driving my chair up front. Once up there, I really wanted to turn and say in an enthusiastic voice, something like: “Come on you guys! Our Minister’s lonely up here!” Or: “Hey folks... Our Minister doesn’t bite (but that doesn’t mean I won’t! Haha.) But again, I got nervous and couldn’t get the words out. But when I looked up and saw his grin.... WORTH IT!!!!! Also, it’s great up that close! I could smile at the choir, see the screens better, (without heads in front of me) etc. It was a blast! ☺
